How Secure Is Amazon For Online Shopping?

  • I’m concerned about giving my credit card details over the internet with all the hype about identity theft at the moment.
    Thanks

I do all my shopping on the internet and have never had a problem. Amazon is completely safe and their customer service is second to none. I can’t see Amazon having anything to do with stolen credit card details, if I gathered together all my friends at least 4/10 would have used Amazon in the last month it’s coincidence. The only people who ever get caught out are the complete idiots and that’s usually in real life and not over the internet.
The only person I know who has had their credit card details stolen was the idiot who put his card statements in the recycling bin unshredded (ha ha).
To fozzibearr, how can you get pre-paid credit card. A credit card in it’s very nature is so poor people can get money they don’t have. If you pre-pay something it’s not credit is it? It’s debit (you are removing your funds that are already there).

Your credit information should be fine. Online retailers have to meet or exceed industry standards just to do business. These standards are known as (PCI) Data Security Standard. This is a little complicated but basically to accept credit card payments they have to encrypt your personal identifiable data and provide safe storage of said data. The odds are much greater of the pizza guy stealing your information than a online retailer stealing or losing it.

I’ve been using it for many years and have never had an issue. On a tangent, any online purchases should be made using a credit card rather than a debit card as you are better protected as a consumer and the credit card company will help you. If you don’t have a credit card you should consider a pre-paid credit card, this has the added advantage that you can add only what you need for the purchase, particularly useful if you don’t know the company you are buying from.

It’s surely really safe to shop. I personally have been using the website for years without having a single problem. Besides Amazon is pretty honest, accepting item’s returns without even asking the reason and offering a way to return the item without any mail expenses.
If you are concerned about the marketplace itself, there are some tips Amazon offers on their help website:http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?i…

Amazon is as secure as any other online shopping service. I have used them and many others over the years and never had any problems – touch wood. The important thing to do is have an anti virus / anti spyware package on your computer and run them regularly. This can prevent your details getting copied and keep things secure

    either do it or don’t.
Anytime you use a card it can be copied, if over the phone the corrupt staff can write down your details or keep a copy after taking your order.
If in a real life shop, they can swipe it and clone it within 2 seconds.
Online is safer, especially with such a well known company.
If you don’t want to take risks, stay in bed all day. You need to get yourself educated.

Very. I believe they use the pay-pal system – even if they don’t, the fact that they are a large company, with sites for France, Germany, the US and the UK (and others presumably) and have been operating for some years should give you a reasonable amount of confidence.
Not to mention that the only problem might be if you were to buy from the used selection, rather than through Amazon’s official store. (As the onus for security would then be a comparatively unknown third party)

Amazon is a large reputable company and would have a lot to lose if they started having security problems. I’d say your information is safe with them.

Ive bought well over 100 things from amazon for testing for Tehsplink.info. They are completely safe, and those incidents the other people quoted were a one-off.
    They can be trusted.

Be careful – I know of three people who have had monies taken from their accounts recently and the common thing was Amazon.
